Memories of Nicaragua 1979
They called ahead for the plane to meet them on the runway. They who had worked for Samosa were escaping from death that would surely come if they were caught. Three cars filled with the guilty were in succession as they approached the gate. Gunshots that were heard in the distance now were getting closer. Another gunshot and the windshield turned red. That was one that never made it to the plane.

Memories of Nicaragua 1999
A late night call came from Managua. It was a tearful Francesco on the telephone announcing the news about his murdered cousin. He was grateful now that I insisted on the armed guards to escort him off the plane. I told him not to leave the city. I guess he forgot to tell his cousin not to leave either. His cousin’s limo was found on a dirt road with the bodies of he and his chauffeur hunched in the door. Blood was still oozing from their heads.
Memories of Pedro in North Africa
He left Spain for North Africa to bring back the body of a young woman he barely knew. She was killed by a member of the Foreign Legion while trying to escape a brutal rape. On his way home, he sees women dancing in formation while holding snakes that were milked for their venom. The women lay on the ground rubbing and pressing the snakes against their breast in the hot sun while waiting for the snakes to strike and bury their fangs into their flesh. A painful thing indeed, but they wanted it that way. An afternoon of euphoria was worth one second of the serpent’s anger.
